Cycling New Zealand..... For FUN!

I left Queenstown on the 31st August 2004 (the last day of Winter!). Now this was taking a risk as I'd never attempted anything like this before and so there was the very real possiblity of getting wet one day and chucking everything into the nearest ditch and buying a car! Wish me luck!

This section includes a near-daily break down in a journal style with all my photos added of my journey.

Why!?

Well it all started when I worked as a mouse pusher at Network Rail when I was sat one lunch time surfing the t'interweb for some info about New Zealand. I'd been planning a working holiday for twelve months and stumbled across a site for cycling NZ! One drunken evening of contemplation later I told a few people I was gonna cycle New Zealand, saw the reaction was one of horror and admriation (more the previous than the latter) and decided it was for me.

I soon realised that being neither German nor fit was to be a stumbling block but in true Steve fashion I simply stumbled past it and purchased my gear! The realisation that it was actually going to be a more expensive way to travel than buying a car was a realisation too far down the line!

Milton Keynes Rides (not ready yet)

I'm planning a selection of day rides for the outsider in and around Milton Keynes. MK (prononuced emmm-kaayy) has many miles of cycle routes (known locally as 'red ways', due to the red tarmac)

I plan to give a route guide to my favourite for other cyclists to enjoy. Besides the wonderful views of the city (saracism intended) there are lots of beautiful villages surrounding (and even, gasp inside) MK.

My Cycle Touring Setup

I found there to be some very good sites giving the site owners gear lists, and the reasoning behind it.. here is mine (see the links section for other more seasoned vetrons lists!) and where I purchased it and approx. cost. Etc.
